This is a jazzy rock tune with an ontological rap. The rap is spoken from the perspective of this magical woman. She yells me about life and love and the spiritual mystery of being present.

Michael Mazzola was visiting one week and I played the basic idea. He played the B part and it stuck. We shared files over the Intertubes and I got his jams and went to work.

There is a lot going on in this session. Congas, bell tree, an udu, drums, base, many guitar parts, keys doing a Fender Rhodes bosanova (buried in the mix), a flute VST plugin, and a few vocals on top. I pulled the base up on this mix.

I saw her one night
She was walking along
Toward the setting sun

I asked her her name
And she smiled and she said
You’re the only one

The moon was reflecting
The stars in her eyes
She looked at me and then she said
You’re a soul survivor

We walked on the shore
And she told me before
I was a lonely man

All the tears that you cried
We’re the great compromise
Of the love you planned

Let the wind dry your tears
And the stars fill your eyes
You’re beauty will shine from within
You’re a soul survivor

[TALK]
She said

Nothing matters
But what you say matters
You create each passing breath

Some make it easy
Some make it hard
But it matters none the less

You are doing
Whatever you say you are doing
You are
Whoever you say you are

Life is simple
Too short but sweet
But you think whatever you want

She said

Truth?
Truth is a paradox
One man's this is another
man's that

Why are we here?
Because we are

These are the thoughts
I am saying
At night it gets dark

What are Eastern mystics proclaiming?
You do that Voodoo do well
Or is it a lark?

Soul survivor
You’re a soul survivor
A soul survivor

Everything fits
And it doesn’t
It’s just your point of view
You don’t have to be one way
or the other
But one will do
For now

We’re all alone
The truth doesn’t hurt
It means what it means
So if you say it hurts,
It hurts
You know what I'm saying?

We’re all machines
And we’re spirit
We’re divided in two
And we’re one

This is the paradox
I’m claiming
Life is knowing
When to say
You don’t have anymore
Just one

It means what it means

Soul survivor
You’re a soul survivor
Soul survivor
You’re a soul survivor
We're all survivors
